Questions

Answers to common questions

What happens after I contact Speedcouncil Plumbing?
We take down the basics about your problem and your home, then connect you with an independent local provider who serves your area. The provider contacts you, sets a time and comes out to look. Before any larger repair, they give you a written price. You decide whether to go ahead.
How fast can a plumber get to my house?
It depends on the provider's schedule, the time of day and how busy things are after a storm or a hard freeze. Many providers can respond quickly to urgent problems. Ask about timing when you reach out. While you wait, keep the water off, move valuables away and take photos of the damage for your records.
What plumbing jobs are safe to do myself?
Plunging a clogged sink or toilet, replacing a toilet flapper and tightening a loose slip nut under a sink are good first projects. Leave hidden leaks, water heater problems, gas connections, sewer backups and anything that means cutting pipe to a provider. A mistake there can cost more than the repair.
Is sewage in my basement dangerous?
It can carry germs, so treat it with care. Stop using water, keep children and pets away, and wear gloves and boots if you must go near it. Open windows if you can. Let a provider clear the line and consider a cleanup company for the mess.
What should I ask a plumber before hiring?
Ask whether they are licensed in the state, what the visit costs, whether the price will be in writing, what caused the problem and how to keep it from coming back. Clear, patient answers are a good sign.
Does home insurance cover plumbing damage?
It depends on your policy. Some policies may cover sudden damage like a burst pipe, but not slow leaks or wear. Check your policy and call your insurer. Providers can often help you document damage with photos and notes.
How do I keep pipes from freezing?
Wrap pipes in garages, crawl spaces and outside walls. Disconnect garden hoses before cold weather. On very cold nights, open cabinet doors under sinks on outside walls and let a faucet drip slowly. Know where your main shutoff is in case a pipe splits.
Am I required to hire the provider?
No. There is no obligation. You can ask questions, get another quote or wait. The provider runs their own business, and any agreement for work is between you and them. Speedcouncil Plumbing does not charge you for the referral.
